Why: True music fan who made his way into the industry through overcoming obstacles most will never face. And not to mention one of the most sincere dudes you will ever meet.
I'm Sean C I grew in Harlem as a Hip Hop fanatic and DJ. My close friend Roc Raida and I co-founded the X Men/Xecutioners DJ collective as teenagers. In the field of A&R I've helped make albums with Mobb Deep, dead prez, Big Pun, WuTang and Terror Squad to name a few. As a producer I've made some classic records with Jay Z, Diddy, Linkin Park, The Roots, Ghostface, Jadakiss and Fabolous among others. There aren't many feelings that compare to creating ground breaking music, I love what I do.
HOW DID YOU FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO FOR YOUR CAREER?
As long as I can remember I was drawn to music. When I was young I never thought about making money, I just wanted to be the best DJ in the world so me and my friends started a DJ crew in Harlem, we called ourselves the X-Men. When my son was born I decided to try my hand at the business side and ended up in the A&R dept at Loud records.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I get inspired by people that make something out of what's in front of them.
TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT WOULD SURPRISE OUR READERS.
When I was an intern in the A&R dept I was suffering from cancer. I would go to Chemotherapy then go to the office. At no time did I ever think I would die because I knew there was a plan for me. That’s what actually gave me fuel.
WHAT WAS YOUR DEFINING MOMENT?
I don't believe that any one moment defines me. I have monumental chapters; Starting the Xecutioners, Producing “Can't Knock The Hustle,” A&Ring Big Pun and producing the American Gangster soundtrack.
MY BIGGEST BREAK WAS…
My biggest break was when Matty C called me in his office and told me he wanted me to be a part of the A&R team at Loud, from there the flood gates were open.
IF I WASN'T ME I WOULD BE… (WHY?)
I can’t answer that question because I only know how to be what I am.
